LOCATION: Detroit, MI
SCOPE: 150W metal halide wall wash fixtures converted to a LED Retrofit Solution
DESCRIPTION: The Detroit Institute of Arts, founded in 1885, is considered the cultural gem of Detroit. Housing over 100 galleries in its 658,000 square foot facility the need for proper lighting became apparent in the entrance atrium. The DIA approached Lumecon with the project of engineering a LED solution to convert the existing 150W metal halide fixtures into LED. The fixtures are used to wall wash the entrance with light to help guide guests into the museum. Focused in surpassing the DIA’s expectations for this unique project, Lumecon’s retrofit division went hard to work. The retrofit solution which was presented and later installed set a new bar for the possibilities of LED lighting and was well received by both the DIA and their guests.
RESULTS: The Detroit Institute of Arts is now home to a handful of Lumecon retrofit kits which took 150W Metal Halide fixtures and converted them into 82W LED solutions. A pleasing warm white wall wash solution now greets guests and helps guide them through the atrium of the DIA.
